I got 10 km North West of Hamley Bridge and the Big Cell was heading quickly my way with lots of Bolts all along the Horizon. So I set the Camera up and waited for it to come to Daddy:) A problem I found was the communication between the Camera and Lightning Trigger, I had no problems before but it completely locked out the automatic exposure compensation. Luckily I found it out before the Lightning got close. There is a ghost like band surrounding it and the surrounding sky has a lot of warmth. The detail in the Fore ground is great. I previously stated on my other Web site that I thought this hit somewhere near the Bunnings Warehouse at Parafield Airport but on closer inspection it seem to have hit in an open area surrounded by high voltage Transmission Towers. The smaller strike to the left 'MAY' have hit near Bunnings as some one of HIGH standing said they saw the same strikes from Gulfview Heights almost opposite them!! This is on the Sea-side of the Barrage, usually a good place to see Herons, Egrets, Spoonbills, Ibis, small wading Birds and of course Black Swans And Pelicans. As long as you stay in the Car and keep still, they usually ignore you. Best when the Tide is out a bit. This shows a small Island that is used by Ibis for nesting. Due to the dry, warm to hot climate here in Adelaide, Blue Bells are in very short supply - None!. Up in the Adelaide Hills at the Mt. Lofty Botanical Gardens it's cooler and wetter and only in the last two years have I stumbled upon the small patch of Blue Bells sheltering under the canopy of Trees. Kangaroos and Emus are found closer to the Roads to catch any pooled water or any Grass growing there, which makes it very dangerous when you are travelling around early Morning or late evening. A steep wooden multi-levelled stair case leads down to the Beach where you will find a few remains of the Norwegian Barque that was wrecked in a Storm in 1904. Further down the Beach and in the photo, you can still see the remains of the Boiler that belonged to the 'Ferret' a small steamship that tried to help the Ethel and was also washed ashore. Yes I know, the Road from Wilpena to Blinman is sealed now but it doesn't have the same effect. The bottom-Right hand shot is another Classic Flinders view along the Bunyeroo Track (Razorback Ridge Lookout) leading down to Bunyeroo Gorge and on the Brachinna Gorge. This shows a small section of Wilpena Pound. The centre image is on the Martins Well Road, (almost opposite to the Rawnsley Park Station turn off) looking East to the Chase Range after the sun has set and is a combination of 3 different exposures to create a very striking shot. The piles are made of Red-gum. Officially opened in 1868 it was used until around 1900. The writing is in the Algerian style, Castellar looks good as well and don't forget, you can have any writing you want below the Image. Not enough Passengers I was told. This formation is at the South-Eastern edge of Wilpena Pound. It was a very hot day and I didn't want to travel too far so I drove up to a lookout and in the dying light took Three shots at different exposures and combined them in the Computer to get some 'depth'. I received about 12mm and lots of lightning was present. Strikes1-2-3 were captured from my back garden when the first front went through the Northern Suburbs about 2pm. Managed this strike but the ambient light was quite strong so the shutter speed was faster than I wanted. I saw a fantastic Twin strike from the Heavens just to the left of screen but when I moved the camera around, the front was on the move like a Scott's Transport Truck-[i]fast.[/i] The rest of the evening when the other fronts came through was a bit of a disappointment, too much low rain clouds-nothing new!!! Second Valley is along the Coast on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South of Adelaide, South Australia. Gouged out by Glaciers and Volcanic action. The folding and inclines of the Rocks are very evident and contain phyllite quartzite and marble + others of course. I tried processing the images but did not like the 'Yellow tinge' to the shots so I processed them in the Raw converter using the Fluorescent lighting pre-set. Beautiful bold colours, I think. Of course in due course I will get the 'original' colour versions done, in due course, of course... The dirt Roads were a bit Wet but in Werner's trusty Toyota Fore Runner we managed it with no real problems. This place is well know amongst the Adelaide Storm Chasing Fraternity. This cell was full of promise as it passed over us but only produced a few big drips (not us!) and a few sparks, the best came later. But as it went over the full beauty of it appeared. These are usually worn in the Akubra Hat or in fact any Hat at all really. I did quite a few combinations with different lighting styles. Lot's of fine detail in these. This place is well know amongst the Adelaide Storm Chasing Fraternity. This cell was full of promise as it passed over us but only produced a few big drips (not us!) and a few sparks, the best came later. But as it went over the full beauty of it appeared. Half sun and Half shade. The sun disappeared behind some Cloud soon after I took this so waiting was not on the agenda. One way is to take at least 3 exposures and combine them together - easy I hear you say!! The trick is not to overcook it and make it look over the top. This combination works for me. The tree is 'very' tall and I decided not to include it all as there would have been too much sky, one time some nice cloud would have been appropriate to fill in the top Right-Hand corner. Second Valley is along the Coast on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South of Adelaide, South Australia. Gouged out by Glaciers and Volcanic action. The folding and inclines of the Rocks are very evident and contain phyllite quartzite and marble + others of course. I tried processing the images but did not like the 'Yellow tinge' to the shots so I processed them in the Raw converter using the Fluorescent lighting pre-set. Beautiful bold colours, I think. Of course in due course I will get the 'original' colour versions done, in due course, of course... The left-hand image is of the Cazneaux Tree near Wilpena Pound and the centre image is of a Large Grass Tree on the Bunyeroo Track and the Wind Pump is a regular feature in the Outback. A short drive into the Innes National Park at the bottom of the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, there is a short turn off to a large car-park which over looks a 450 metre Beach with pounding Surf, hemmed in by steep Headlands. A steep wooden multi-levelled stair case leads down to the Beach where you will find a few remains of the Norwegian Barque that was wrecked in a Storm in 1904. Further down the Beach and in the photo, you can still see the remains of the Boiler that belonged to the 'Ferret' a small steamship that tried to help the Ethel and was also washed ashore. It was a gradual movement from Right to Left, heading passed the Althorpe Islands. and onto Kangaroo Island. The fore ground is illuminated with a Ledlenser X21 Torch/flashlight, I thought it was strong enough for the job but now I have a small Search light to get the more distant objects:) Accessible by car. There was a group of about 7 wandering all over the place when these fellas suddenly started running along the Track. I stayed a distance behind them so I wouldn't Spook them. I turned the Wheel to the Left, grabbed the Camera from the Seat and fired two shots before they went around the bend. It covers such a large area that no matter how many times I visit I can always find something new to shoot. There are not many Roads/Tracks leading through but the views and the variety never disappoint. Check for closures after Rain. It shows a Car on the Dirt Road in the Bottom-Centre, between the Two smaller images, after the Sun had set. The lookout is directly in front of the spectacular Chase Range. The top Left-hand image is of the Moralana Scenic Drive as it cuts through a dried out Creek Bed with a sheep standing defiantly in the middle of it. Gum Trees love Creek Beds. The Top Right-hand shot is along the Bunyeroo Track showing a very small section of the North-Eastern Ramparts of Wilpena Pound. The bottom-Left hand photo is from Stokes Hill Lookout looking North with 4-4WD's in the late afternoon light. Brilliant views to most directions from there. Any way, this was the reason for the Cruise. Unfortunately they were running nearly 1 hour behind so we never got the chance to see it leave the Harbour and sail into the Sunset. You start off with the Black background and desaturate the smoke to a bright white, then a copy on another layer is made and lightened then flipped Horizontally and checked to see if the full shape is any good. All spots and stray smoke are erased and the image is 'trimmed up' to see a shape, any "eye's" in the many faces are enhanced and then you can invert the image to a White Background and once again cleaned up if it works in the 'negative state'. Some work just as good in the original state. Some images though just look better in colour. They may never take off (would look good on a T-Shirt maybe). But that's another day. Canon 5D MkII. One way is to take at least 3 exposures and combine them together - easy I hear you say!! The trick is not to overcook it and make it look over the top. This combination works for me. The tree is 'very' tall and I decided not to include it all as there would have been too much sky, one time some nice cloud would have been appropriate to fill in the top Right-Hand corner. I had a strange feeling in my water when I prepared for some long exposure shots and for some reason I started too early when there was a bit too much light in the sky. After 2 hours 15 minutes the night sky was interspersed with spotlights - I knew this wasn't good news. I quietly crept out of the car, took a few steps and 'Crack' a high velocity rifle shot went some where over my head!! Had to make a decision, soon. It was either a Kangaroo shooter or a crack pot!!! some where over the rise. I decided to get my 2 Cameras, mounted on Tripods, which were about 30 metres from me on a slight rise. With no lights on I switched the both off, grabbed both of them by the scruff of the neck and stumbled back to the Car. I shoved them onto the back seat, got in and took a swig of water and decided to move. I made it back onto the Bunyeroo Track and Had to go in the direction of the firing, no other way out, I rounded the bend and there was his 4WD with all lights blazing so I just kept on going and I lived to tell the tale:) If you look closely you can see where the spotlight has caught the tops of the trees around the base area of the grass Tree. There are not many Roads/Tracks leading through but the views and the variety never disappoint. Check for closures after Rain. The blurred back-ground image is taken from Pugalist Hill, a steep look-out just along the Martin's Well Road, nearly opposite the Rawnsley Park Station entrance. It shows a Car on the Dirt Road in the Bottom-Centre, between the Two smaller images, after the Sun had set. The lookout is directly in front of the spectacular Chase Range (seen in the Centre Photo). The top Left-hand image is of the Moralana Scenic Drive as it cuts through a dried out Creek Bed with a sheep standing defiantly in the middle of it. Gum Trees love Creek Beds. I had a strange feeling in my water when I prepared for some long exposure shots and for some reason I started too early when there was a bit too much light in the sky. After 2 hours 15 minutes the night sky was interspersed with spotlights - I knew this wasn't good news. I quietly crept out of the car, took a few steps and 'Crack' a high velocity rifle shot went some where over my head!! Had to make a decision, soon. It was either a Kangaroo shooter or a crack pot!!! some where over the rise. I decided to get my 2 Cameras, mounted on Tripods, which were about 30 metres from me on a slight rise. With no lights on I grabbed both of them by the scruff of the neck and stumbled back to the Car. I shoved them onto the back seat, got in and took a swig of water and decided to move. I made it back onto the Bunyeroo Track and Had to go in the direction of the firing, no other way out, I rounded the bend and there was his 4WD with all lights blazing so I just kept on going and I lived to tell the tale:) If you look closely you can see where the spotlight has caught the tops of the trees around the base area of the grass Tree. As I thought, the exposure was a bit tooo light but in Photoshop I managed to bring back the details and colour by combining it with an under-exposed copy. Flinders Ranges, South Australia. This is on the Sea-side of the Barrage, usually a good place to see Herons, Egrets, Spoonbills, Ibis, small wading Birds and of course Black Swans And Pelicans. As long as you stay in the Car and keep still, they usually ignore you. Best when the Tide is out a bit. This shows a small Island that is used by Ibis for nesting.
